Elsie's interests

At a recent meeting of the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education, a woman who I thought was interested in just certain facets of life proved to me how wrong I could be in judging people.

Every so often I see a picture of this woman, sometimes with her husband, in Seen, the glamorous society section of the Post-Gazette. I have read about her involvement in many philanthropic causes.

Imagine my surprise when I saw her at an ordinary public school board meeting. My greater surprise was to find her name on the program as a guest speaker, and speak she did -- advising the art of compromise as a means of solving some of the problems of the board.

My immediate thoughts: This woman is not only well-rounded, but she's a woman of all the people: Elsie Hillman, a woman for all seasons.
